What is a Loading Dock?

The majority of overland transportation occurs by truck. Even if a product takes a voyage first in an airplane, train or cargo ship,  youíre going to find most companies move product from a storage facility by truck into the store or warehouse. And Unloading a truck by hand would not be easy Ė it would take a lot of workers to move individual boxes, and it would really be a pain if people were just picking things up out of the back of the truck and carrying it in through the front door.  Thus, the invention of the loading dock.  In a single-truck kind of facility, a loading dock generally consists of a large door for the truck to back up to and a roller rack to quickly and efficiently move things from the truck to the ground. Product is usually placed on pallets that can then be easily moved with a forklift or pneumatic cart.

What is the best type of Leveler to get?

The best Leveler for you to get, is the type that matches your individual requirements. We are not trying to be funny here, it's just that there are different types that suit different needs.

There are currently three basic types of dock levelers: hydraulic, mechanical, and power assisted mechanical units. Each design has its place, depending on the application, but there are distinct differences between each as well. So, to determine the best Leveler for you, determine your specific needs, determine your operational requirements and then gives us a call so that we can help you ensure you get exactly what you need.

What kind of Truck Restraint should I get?

The most important things to consider when evaluating different restraints is how well they prevent trailer separation and how reliably they communicate.  There are several different types of vehicle restraints. Each style provides a different degree of protection against trailer separation.

RIG Dependent Restraints attaches onto the trailerís RIG.  Vertical barrier Restraints can address trailer creep and early departure.  Rotating Hook Restraints can address trailer creep, early departure, landing gear failure and trailer tip-over.  Wheel Dependent Restraints engage the trailerís rear wheel(s) instead of the RIG and is often used with lift gate trailers.

What are Dock Seals and Shelters?

Dock seals and shelters are fabric structures that surround the top and sides of a loading dock door opening.  Dock seals and shelters are designed to come in contact with the trailer as it is backs into the loading dock.  The lack or loss of environmental control through an unsealed door can create safety and productivity problems on the loading dock including: employee discomfort, energy loss, theft or security concerns, product damage or contamination, insect infiltration, slippery or dangerous conditions, loss of temperature control and most of all - cost you money.
